CYCLING ACCIDENT, FREE CLAIMS ADVICECycling accident, free claims advice from personal injury solicitors specialising in cycling accidents and complex compensation claims Here’s an example of some of the stranger cycle accident claims that we receive. Can your company help me with a claim for compensation for a cycling accident involving a Great Dane? Do you really offer free advice and will I get 100% of the compensation? It was only by divine intervention that I am alive today to be able to relate my story. I am a retired vicar and I was riding my tricycle (don’t laugh) through my village on my way to church last Sunday when my cycling accident happened. I was cycling quite slowly along admiring the daffodils on the banks of our lane when my neighbour’s cat darted out across the road in front of me. I naturally slowed down and luckily I did as a lady who lives further up the lane came running out into the road being dragged by her Great Dane. I managed to avoid her but the lead to her dog became entangled in my handlebars, causing her to let go and leaving me being towed at speed by the dog who was still in hot pursuit of the cat. CYCLING ACCIDENTI have a fixed wheel cycle and at my age I couldn’t keep up wit the speed that the pedals were running round. in fact all I could do was hang on for dear life and splay my legs out at either side to avoid my ankles being clipped by the pedals. We continued along my lane at speed with the dog showing no sign of slowing down even though I was applying my breaks when I saw our Rector crossing the road ahead. He is a little deaf, so although I was ringing my bell and shouting out he didn’t see me until the last moment. He started to hurry across the road, then turned as if to go back, then turned again to ahead, he didn’t know which way to go so I hit him. he went bowling over in the road but that was just the first cycling accident. We continued down to the main road through our village where the dog continued running across the intersection in between cars passing in both directions. I had started praying long before I hit the Rector but I have to admit that at this stage I closed my eyes and expected to meet my maker and that’s why I don’t know what happened next. All I can say was there was a lot of crashing, crunching and broken glass. I was unable to look back as the dog suddenly veered to the left, ran down a bank where the lead came unhooked but at that point I was already travelling too fast, was up on one wheel and out of control and ended up in our village pond. As a Christian, I don’t wish to punish anyone but I would like to seek compensation for my cleaning bill and damage to my bike and if possible the aches and strains I received trying to retain control of my bike. As cycling accidents go, I would imagine your company probably think this is a shaggy dog story. |
